How to maintain your look, without looking old ( Over 30's Style) pt 1

As a man in your late 20s to mid-40s, you might be wondering how to dress for your age while staying true to your style. We have all been there - scrolling past  page 34 of the menswear section, confused by what we are seeing.  Or worse, dressed and ready before being asked when you are going to get dressed and ready - a clear sign you have missed the mark this time with the outfit choice.

There can be an internal struggle, I think. Part of us thinks we know what good looks like, another part is concerned that nobody else who we are told looks good, dresses anything like we do. It's a confusing time to be approaching or over 30. Lucky for you, the Diaspora family have you covered. Welcome to part one of this guide.

There is good news! We have been stuck between the early 90's and early noughties (stylistically) for nearly 30 years. That means you can find outfits that 1. suit your style and 2. don't have you looking insane on the high road or at the group chat meet-up event.

The key to nailing your look lies in getting the basics right, starting with quality materials and the right fit for your body type.

A quick example of this: If you are tall and slim, like myself. You have no business wearing short jackets, short sleeve jackets, short sleeve shirts or short-shorts. Stay away from most things starting with 'sh' if you are 6 ft + 30 and above. Keep a longline bomber handy, as well as some hi tops. Always know your size in jeans, because these manufacturers do us slender kings dirty on the standard sizes.

The opposite example - stocky, low centre-of-gravity, twitter: avoid those long puffer jackets and parkas. I know it can be tempting to join in, but some of you look crazy pulling your coat up to take bigger strides or climb stairs. C R A Z Y. Take it easy on yourself and cop one of those boxy collar jackets from Patta or  even look at Aubin WillsSuperdry who make some stylish clobber for growner gentlemen.

You medium size heroes have the best of both worlds and can really get creative in a world where everybody makes your size. Don't let this work against you though. Don't try and skip the process, stepping into the boat party in a patchwork of styles, fits, (textures!?) and finishes.

Instead, and this applies to everybody really. figure out which of these styles works for you. Always comfort over hype - always quality over anything. If your clothes fit well, and they are well made - they will look good. Just don't over do it and you cannot fail. Enjoy yourselves!
